Just east of the Blue Ridge Mountains lies the heart of the Virginia Piedmont, a land rich in history.  Bounded by the Rappahannock River to the north and the James River to the south, the region was inhabited without the distinctions known to us by county names. Landmarks of creeks and rivers, fall lines and mountains, crossroad villages and large plantations gave those who lived here in the 18th and 19th centuries a sense of place and shaped both their migration patterns and way of life.    

The goal of Land Between the Rivers is to bring together online the museums and historical societies in the region so its history can be accessed in one place. Each museum or society holds in its collection unique items, some unobtainable elsewhere, vital to understand and illustrate the history, people, and culture of the region as a whole.
